Cameron’s story

Cameron was born on the 21st of April 1994 at not quite 28 weeks and he weighed 1lb 7 3/4 oz.

He born down in Ninewells Hospital in Dundee as the Special Nursery was full and it was extremely likely that he was going to be born due to my pre-eclampsia.  I was transferred by ambulance on the Tuesday evening and Cameron made his appearance at 22:19 on the Thursday night after an emergency Section.  I stayed in the hospital for nearly 3 weeks but unfortunately had to leave Cameron there.  I could only manage to see him once or twice a week as I lived in Inverurie at that time so it was not possible to travel every day as I was not fit enough.  Cameron was finally moved back to Aberdeen after 5 weeks - he was not stable enough to be moved until then.

Cameron did not have any major setbacks on his journey to getting home.  He did suffer from chronic lung disease which he thankfully has grown out of.  Cameron was finally discharged from the Special Nursery on the 1st of August 1994 which was 14 weeks after his sudden arrival.

Cameron is now in 2nd year at Kemnay Academy and is a typical teenager.  He is usually found at Pittodrie watching Aberdeen Football Club.  He also enjoys playing his PS2 and also watching DVDs.

He is now a big brother to a 4 year old sister Eimer who was full-term.  I had to go to hospital for regular scans and check-ups to make sure that everything was ok - especially at the 26-29 week mark.  I did seem to have my own bed in the Westburn Ward as I was put there most weekends in the run-up to the final stages of my pregnancy as my blood pressure was high.  Fortunately it did not develop into pre-eclampsia and my daughter was born a few days before her due date.  It was reassuring to know that I was being kept an eye on and if pre-eclampsia was going to develop then it would be caught early.
